. Ina optical system, there are many parameters that will affect the optical systemperformance. Some of the parameters are very sensitive that the performance, byadjusting a small amount of the parameter, will change a lot. Others areinsensitive that the performance, by adjusting a small amount of the parameter,will not affect the entire system performance. Furthermore, if a tolerance isset too tight for the current technology to manufacture, the cost will increasedramatically. On the other hand, if the tolerance is set too lose for aprecision application, the product will be usable.
